Johnny Depp

I first noticed the handsome Johnny Depp when I saw A Nightmare on Elm Street. Can you believe that movie is over 25 years old? Johnny, of course, became a major movie star after that. He has created such unique, memorable characters like Willy Wonka, Edward Scissorhands, and Captain Jack Sparrow. It seems he can play any type of role and own it. His latest film, The Rum Diary, premiered this month. The movie is based upon the novel of the same name by Hunter S. Thompson. Depp also played the lead in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas which was also based on a Thompson novel.

According to a recent article in the Speakeasy section of the Wall Street Journal, Depp has been reading an eclectic list of books lately.

He is quoted as reading The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson and re-reading Ulysses by James Joyce. Johnny also mentioned he was reading poetry by Dylan Thomas. Find out more about the movie premiere and what else Johnny is reading in the Speakeasy article here.

I'm shocked that he has time to read anything with all the films he is shooting. Sometimes I'm afraid he will pop even out of my refrigerator :)

Somehow, those books sound just like the kinds of books you'd expect Johnny Depp to read.

I'm impressed. I first saw Johnny Depp on the TV cop show 21 Jump Street which ran from '87 to '91. It also starred Peter DeLuise, Dom Deluise's son. I knew when I saw Depp, even back then, that he was destined for greatness. The man can play anything!

I can't believe he read Ulysses. Really. That book is well night unreadable for a lot of people.

I, too, remember him from 21 Jump Street. Good times, good times.

Dezz- The man is everywhere! And I'm glad!
Shelley - I agree! A little eclectic and eccentric.
Bish & Sherrie- I don't know why I never watched 21 Jumpstreet!
Susan - He certainly can play any type of character!
Anita - Click on the title of each book and it takes you to B&N and the premise/price of the book.
Cynthia - I could see him sitting by the fire with a good book!
